Next generation of vehicles will be networked in order to exchange safety, non-safety and infotainment information with other vehicles, the roadside and peers in the Internet. Internet-based communications will rely on IPv6, the new version of the Internet Protocol, which is already in the product line of major vendors (networking devices and operating systems) and deployed in backbones (GEANT, OpenTransit,…)
IPv6 is already taking momentum in the automobile sector as could it be witnessed by the CVIS and GeoNet European projects and standardization activities by ISO TC204 WG16 (CALM architecture), ETSI, and the Car-to-Car Communication Consortium (C2C-CC).
Following the European Commission’s IPv6 action plan issued in May 2008, the objective of the session is to discuss how IPv6 know-how could be best developed in Europe.
The session will gather speakers from:
- The GeoNet project
- The CVIS project
- C2C-CC
- ETSI
- European Commission
